Stellarvue SVR80ED Refractor Telescope
The Stellarvue SVR80ED Raptor doublet refractor telescope also known as the Nighthawk Next Generation Deluxe with hand figured, extra low dispersion doublet for sharp high contrast views.
It comes with a 2” dual speed focuser, 1.25” compression ring adapter, cnc clamshell with easy one touch balancing and hard sided foam lined case.
The SVR80ED is the best selling and lightest ED doublet refractor telescope in the range. The Stellarvue SVR80ED Raptor is lighter than the smaller SVR70ED refractor. The SVR80ED Raptor features a unique, hand figured 80 mm clear aperture lens.
The 560 mm focal length (f/7) air-spaced doublet lens with Ohara extra low dispersion (ED) glass in the telescope is used to reduce chromatic aberration or color fringing to near perfection. Compare this to normal two element achromats. While no f-7 doublet can give you the reflector like color correction of one of the apo triplets, this optic comes very close.
Fully multicoated objective:
The hand figured ED lens provides extremely high contrast; several extreme broadband coatings are used on all of the lens. The stars appear vivid and clear and the background is velvet black. These coatings transmit light above and below the visual spectrum, making them well suited for ccd imaging.
Carbon fiber tube and dew shield:
The tube and dew shield are made of carbon fiber to reduce weight and increase the telescope's good looks. The carbon fiber dew shield and black anodized aluminum end rings add to this effect.
The dew shield retracts, reducing the length of the telescope for storage, and can be extended to minimize dewing of the objective at night, also serving as a glare shade during the daytime.
Internal tube treatment:
The inside of the tube assembly is painted "ultra flat black" to cut down on excess reflection. The inside of the focuser is threaded, creating ridges. These ridges are painted, reducing the most commonly found type of reflected glare.
This treatment provides better glare reduction than focusers that only have the ridging to prevent glare. All of these methods add up to provide outstanding contrast of the ED lens.
The Stellarvue SVR80ED may also be purchased with the optional Feather Touch 2" focuser which has 11 baffle ridges, painted "ultra flat black," to give an even larger reduction of excess light reflection.
Dual speed Crayford focuser with precision bearings:
The 2" Crayford focuser has a compression ring and three thumb screws to secure accessories and cameras firmly in place. A compression ring 1.25" adapter with 2" filter thread is also provided: The focuser has three focusing knobs, one on the left and two on the right.
The single knob on the left and a larger knob on the right provide coarse focusing. On the right side is a second, slightly smaller, brass colored fine focus knob.
This fine focus knob has an 11-1 rotation reducer, allowing for extremely fine focusing. The reducer in the Stellarvue focuser uses a hardened stainless shaft and precision ball bearings. It has greater longevity than some competitive dual speed focusers.
A tension adjustment set screw is positioned under the focuser; a thumb screw allows for locking the focuser when engaged in astrophotography.
The drawtube is inscribed with a millimeter scale on top. Two 5 mm threaded holes on top of the focuser allow for the attachment of two separate finder scopes. One may also mount finder scopes and accessories to the clamshell mounting ring. The focuser is fully rotating. Loosen the rotation knob to rotate the focuser.
Machined aluminum clamshell mounting ring with Vixen Dovetail:
The Stellarvue SVR 80ED Raptor uses a unique, American-made, precision CNC (computer numeric controlled) machined aluminum mounting ring. This clamshell ring has several 10-32 threaded holes on the side and top accommodating finder scopes, a guide scope or other accessories.
The clamshell is precision machined and has an "easy-one-touch" single knurled knob for tighten and loosening the ring. This permits faster and more convenient balancing of the telescope tube. The underside of the mounting ring has a Vixen style dovetail rail with safety grooves.
This rail fits most telescope mounts on the market such as the Vixen, Celestron CG5 or Meade LXD-55. If you plan to mount this telescope on a larger mount that uses the Losmandy rail theTP6 (Losmandy sized) plate attaches to the bottom of the Vixen rail with two screws.
Stellarvue SVR80ED Supplied accessories:
The Stellarvue SVR 80ED Raptor comes with foam lined, airline carry on case. This case will hold the telescope, star diagonal, reflex finder and numerous eyepieces.
Light gathering and magnification power:
The purpose of a telescope is to gather light and magnify the apparent size of the object being viewed. The Stellarvue SVR80ED gathers 131 times the amount of light of the naked eye, and reveal faint objects in space. Magnification power (the increase in relative size of the object being viewed) is dependant upon the eyepiece being used.
Since the Stellarvue SVR80ED uses a highly accurate, hand figured objective lens and is triple tested in the USA, these telescopes are free of coma and astigmatism seen in many imported telescopes. This provides sharper details when viewing at higher powers. Dawes limit states that the maximum power for telescopes of this type is about 186 power for a 80 mm telescope, under good conditions.
